Kourtney Rylands is an associate in the firm's Business Law and Financial Services practice groups in McMillan's Calgary office. Her practice focuses on a broad range of matters, including private transactions, mergers and acquisitions, securities, business restructuring and organization, regulatory law and general commercial law. As part of her corporate practice Kourtney also advises on the negotiation and drafting of contracts and agreements, as well as the review of commercial documents in preparation for litigation. Kourtney has advised a broad range of clients including, businesses, government bodies, financial institutions, and court appointed receivers.
Kourtney joined McMillan as a summer student in 2013 and completed her articles with the firm in 2015. She received Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Calgary in 2011, where she graduated with first class honours. Kourtney also received her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2014. During law school, Kourtney was actively involved in pro bono activities and volunteered with Student Legal Assistance at the University of Calgary, making numerous court appearances before the Alberta Provincial Court. Kourtney has continued her pro bono activities in practice by acting as duty counsel in Pro Bono Law Alberta's Civil Claims Duty Counsel Project. Before law school, Kourtney gained business and client service experience with the provincial and federal governments.
