McMillan lawyers once again recognized by the
2011 Lexpert®/American Lawyer 500: Leading Practitioners

McMillan LLP is pleased to announce that 10 of its lawyers have been named among the "500 Leading Practitioners in Canada" as  designated by Lexpert®/American Lawyer 500 magazine.

A. Neil Campbell, Competition
James Musgrove, Competition, Advertising and Marketing

Neil and James, who are both members of McMillan's 28-lawyer Competition Group, have been recognized for their work in the area of Competition Law.

James Musgrove is lead counsel to MasterCard in the Competition Tribunal proceedings initiated by the Commissioner of Competition, and obtained Competition Bureau approval for the merger of Kraft and Cadbury in 2010. He regularly advises advertisers on permissible conduct. In 2010 he successfully negotiated the resolution of the Competition Bureau's concerns with the promotional efforts of a major retailer.

In 2010, Neil Campbell represented Novartis and Coca-Cola in merger transactions leading to consent agreements with the Commissioner of Competition.   He has also acted on numerous cartel matters and related class actions including in the air cargo, retail gasoline  and chocolate confectionary cases.  Neil is the Co-Chair of the Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association as well as a member of the International Task Force of the Amercian Bar Association's Antitrust Law Section.

C.J. Michael Flavell, QC, International Trade Regulation
Geoffrey C. Kubrick, International Trade Regulation

Michael and Geoffrey, who are both members of the firm's International Business Group, have been recognized for their work in the area of International Trade Regulation.

Michael Flavell is Counsel and Chair for the firm's International Trade Group. He acts as counsel for Raleigh Canada Limited (Bicycles), Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (Greenhouse Bell Peppers) and Johns Manville International (Polyiso Insulation Board), to name a few.

Geoffrey Kubrick has most recently represented Canadian producers in anti-dumping actions relating to Greenhouse Bell Peppers, Oil Country Tubular Goods, Mattress Innerspring Units, and Polyiso Insulation Board. He is currently involved in an anti-dumping/subsidy Expiry Review in respect of Hot-Rolled Steel Sheet.

Wayne D. Gray, Corporate Mid-Market

Wayne is a member of the firm's Corporate Group, he has been recognized for his work in the area of Corporate Mid-Market. Some of Wayne's recent transactions in the public domain include the financial restructurings of Masonite, World Colour Press (formerly , Quebecor World) and Tembec.

Andrew J. F. Kent, Insolvency & Financial Restructuring, Banking and Financial Institutions

Andrew is CEO and Chair of the firms Debt Products and Restructuring Groups, he is recognized for his work in the categories of Insolvency & Financial Restructuring as well as Banking and Financial Institutions. Some of Andrew's transactions include Canwest, Trident, GM and Chrysler.

David Kent, Litigation Class Action

David is a member of the firm's Litigation and Competition Groups, and has been recognized for his work in the area of Litigation Class Action. He has represented clients in nearly 35 class action matters, comprising over 100 individual proceedings in Ontario, BC, Quebec and other provinces as well as in the Federal Court.  He is particularly active in competition cases, but has also acted in a wide range of other cases including consumer protection and securities litigation.  Some of David's cases include the Vitamins price-fixing litigation, which involved perhaps the largest private law class action settlement to date, the DRAM computer memory conspiracy litigation, certified by the BC Court of Appeal, and the national Paxil litigation, a consumer case alleging misuse of Canada's patent laws that was dismissed by the Ontario Court of Appeal in December 2010.

Margaret C. McNee, Corporate Finance and Securities

Margaret, who is past chair of the firm's Board of Partners and is a member of the firm's Public Markets Group, has been recognized for her work in the area of Corporate Finance and Securities. Margaret's practice focuses on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, investment funds with a specialty in retail structured products and corporate governance. She advises issuers, underwriters, investment managers and special committees of boards of directors.

Donald H. MacOdrum, Intellectual Property

Donald is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Group, he has been recognized in the area of Intellectual Property. Don's recent activities include acting as senior counsel in litigation in the Federal Court, the Ontario Superior Court and the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench relating to patents, confidential information and trademarks, on-going advice as to intellectual property issues in fields as diverse as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, computer and internet implemented solutions and advertising media, and acting as a mediator in relation to intellectual property and contract issues.

J. William Rowley, Arbitration

Mr. Rowley, who is Chairman Emeritus & Special Counsel to McMillan, has been recognized for his work in the area of Arbitration. Mr. Rowley's current practice is devoted largely to international arbitration, competition law (mergers and acquisitions, dominance and conspiracy), corporate governance and general public policy/government interface advice. He is listed as a leading expert in the antitrust, corporate governance and international arbitration fields by European and North American experts guides.
