Ahsan is a Partner in McMillan's Financial Services group. His practice focuses on infrastructure, banking, project finance, secured and syndicated lending projects. He has extensive experience in project development and financing in the transportation, health social infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. He also advises both borrowers and lenders, as well as bond issuers, bond underwriters and private placement investors on a variety of domestic, cross-border and international financing transactions.

Ahsan has been involved in several prominent Canadian project finance and infrastructure transactions. In addition to in-depth knowledge of the Ontario AFP model (Alternative Financing and Procurement), he has gained valuable experience from involvement in major Partnerships BC infrastructure projects as well as municipal PPP projects procured by the cities of Saskatoon, Calgary and Moncton. Ahsan was also a key member of the teams involved in one of the largest PPPs undertaken by the federal Government of Canada and the first PPP project undertaken by the Government of the Northwest Territories. In addition to public infrastructure, Ahsan has acted for several developers in creative structuring and financing solutions for private project development and project financing in the renewable energy sector in Ontario and British Columbia.

Ahsan joined McMillan as a summer student in 2009 and completed his articles in 2011. At law school, Ahsan was the Managing Editor of the Osgoode Hall Law Journal and President of the Muslim Law Students Association.

  • Finch West LRT (Light Rail Transit) Project – Counsel to bond underwriters and bank lenders on the $2.5 billion project to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new 11 kilometer dedicated light rail transit extension in Toronto, Ontario
