Christopher Garrah has been a partner in the Business Law Group in the firm's Toronto office since 2002. He practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and joint ventures.  

A significant portion of his practice involves advising private equity investors with respect to acquisition issues, including related financings. He has transactional experience in numerous industries.  

In addition to mergers and acquisitions, Chris has had significant involvement in general corporate and commercial matters, including advising clients on shareholder agreements and partnership agreements, stock option plans and corporate governance issues. Chris also provides business immigration services to corporate clients, focusing on Canadian work permits. 

Chris has advised non-share capital corporations on corporate governance and transactions, including joint venture transactions and amalgamations involving non-share capital corporations. 

Chris is an active member of the Ontario Bar Association, having served as a member of the Business Law Section Executive since 2005 in a variety of positions. He was Chair of the Business Law Section from 2008-2010 and currently serves as Past Chair of the Business Law Section.

Representative Matters

  • Acted on the BBM Canada-Nielsen Media Research Limited joint venture which resulted in BBM Nielsen Media Research Inc. in 2006.  The joint venture was the result of the merger of the portion of the respective operations of BBM and Nielsen Media Research Inc. that measured television audiences using  wired electronic meters. 
  • Acted for a national promotion company that provides promotion/fulfillment services to a variety of Canada's largest retailers and providers of consumer goods and services. 
  • Acted for vendor group in sale of a national food distributor. 
  • Acted for an auto parts manufacturer in a commercial restructuring and insolvency matter involving major Canadian automobile manufacturers.
  • Acted on behalf of a number of health and safety associations in connection with the restructuring of the workplace and workplace-related accident prevention system in Ontario.
