James has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial lending transactions including acquisition, leasing and real estate financing transactions and routinely acts for banks and private institutional lenders, U.S. and other foreign financial institutions, syndicates and joint ventures in their Canadian activities. James has acted on all manner of loan transactions including term and construction loans, asset-based loans, term real estate deals, cross-border loan deals, dealer finance transactions and loans involving the forestry, renewal energy and seniors living sectors.

James has presented and written articles on lending issues and has acted as an editor of publications on real estate financing and mortgage practices.

  • Acted for Canadian Western Bank on a major syndicated acquisition and construction facility to a large Vancouver developer
  • Acts for Canadian Western Bank on syndicated and bilateral credit facilities to many of the major real estate developers in B.C., including Bosa Developments, Anthem Properties, Boffo Developments, Bosa Properties, Mosaic Properties, Marcon, Wesgroup Properties and Townline Homes
  • Acts for Royal Bank of Canada on a $400 million syndicated construction credit facility to Bosa Development corporation in connection with the construction of two high-rise condo towers
