Andrea Cotroneo, Vice President, Senior Managing Region Counsel, MasterCard, was honoured on Monday night at the Canadian General Counsel Awards, as the Co-Winner of the Litigation Management category. Andrea's Co-Recipient was Amy Gaskin of Visa. McMillan is a proud sponsor of the CGCA awards, and Lisa Parliament was a presenter at the awards ceremony.

Andrea was recognized for her work in overseeing two related pieces of complex litigation-a challenge to MasterCard's rules and practices by the Commissioner of Competition before the Competition Tribunal; and a series (seven at present count) of class actions, seeking $5 Billion in damages, related to credit card interchange rates.

McMillan was very pleased to assist MasterCard with these ongoing matters, drawing upon a team of lawyers in all five of its Canadian offices, with expertise in competition law, banking regulation, litigation and class actions. "This is a challenging set of issues, and very rewarding work for us" said James Musgrove, Co-Chair of McMillan's Competition and Antitrust practice. "It has been an honour to work with Andrea and her colleagues, both in the US and Canada, and indeed all of the MasterCard management team in addressing these challenges. Andrea is a great lawyer, and a pleasure to work with. This award is much deserved by her, and we at McMillan are delighted to extend our congratulations."

The Canadian General Counsel Awards, held at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, is Canada's only national programme designed exclusively to recognize excellence in the In-House Counsel community.
