Mervyn Allen is a partner in McMillan’s commercial real estate department and a member of the firm’s franchising and distribution group.  Merv has practised in the area of commercial transactions, with an emphasis on commercial real estate, for more than 15 years.  He has acted on complex real property acquisitions and divestitures and commercial leasing transactions in the retail, office, industrial, warehousing, specialty leasing, quick service restaurant, automotive, shopping centre, gaming and retirement home sectors.  He has represented landlords, tenants, entrepreneurs, pension funds, banks, universities, developers, joint ventures, franchisors, franchisees and business organizations of varied size and scope.  Merv also has significant experience in the drafting of franchising disclosure documents and in the leasing and sub-leasing of space in the franchising context.

Prior to joining McMillan, Merv worked as in-house legal counsel to one of the world's largest quick service restaurant brands; to an international developer, owner and manager of commercial real estate; and to one of Canada's largest grocery retailers. Merv brings to his practice significant experience in advising management teams and disparate business units.

Before moving in-house, Merv practiced corporate/commercial law with another prominent national law firm.
