Richard Jones is a partner in the Litigation, Environmental and Regulatory practice groups of McMillan's Calgary office. His practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation, municipal law, and environmental law with an emphasis on oil and gas, land development, irrigation, and water rights.

Richard's environmental practice includes dealing with water conveyance, water allocation, water license amendment and transfer, storm and waste water discharge, contaminated site remediation, and EPEA offences. He has particular expertise in irrigation and water law and is one of only a few lawyers in Alberta practicing in this area. He regularly advises clients on a variety of regulatory compliance, and municipal planning and development matters. In his litigation practice, Richard advises clients on energy related matters. Richard also provides advice and strategy to clients in relation to business disputes including commercial transactions, contract and property rights, non-competition covenants, commercial losses, self-insured claims, director and officer's liability, shareholder rights, and prejudgment seizure of assets and production of evidence. He has appeared successfully before all levels of court and a variety of administrative boards and tribunals. Richard is also a trained and experienced mediator.

Richard has practiced law for over 22 years. Prior to joining McMillan, he spent over ten years at a boutique litigation practice, where he was a founding partner. He is a frequent writer and speaker on a variety of legal topics involving land development, water and property rights. Richard is an active volunteer in the Calgary community.
