Storm Clouds Looming: The Impact of Competition Act Changes on Leasing
Watch the webinar recording in our archived library: http://mcmillan.lawcast.tv/
The Affordable Housing and Groceries Act (Bill C-56) recently introduced changes to the Competition Act (Canada) which will govern all landlord and tenant leases and other agreements, not just those of grocery stores. Following our Leasing bulletin which briefly highlighted these developments, we invite you to join our webinar on April 30th for a deep dive into the consequences and considerations for interpreting, negotiating and drafting leases in light of these legislative changes. Examining the amendments through a real estate lens is crucial for landlords and tenants in order to comply with the Act in both their current leases and new deals, and to avoid the risk of hefty penalties, invalid contracts and possible damages payments for failing to comply.
Topics of discussion will cover:
- The amendments to the Competition Actmost relevant for landlords and tenants
- Types of lease provisions that could be impacted
- Risk mitigation strategies
This webinar will include separate Q&A breakout sessions, one for landlords and one for tenants.
