McMillan Partner Tim Murphy Appointed Chair of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority
(OTTAWA) – Tim Murphy, a leading lawyer in public private partnerships and infrastructure, has been appointed as Chair of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA).
The appointment was made by Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities and approved by the Federal cabinet on November 30th. The Order in Council was signed by the Governor-General on December 1st.
“I’m honoured to have been asked to take this role, and excited by the opportunity to work with the WDBA towards the completion of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project,” said Murphy. “At what will be the largest port of entry along the Canada-US border, this project is critical infrastructure for our economy and citizens.”
The multi-faceted project has a $5.7 billion contract value.
Murphy is well known in Canadian politics as the former Chief of Staff to the Rt. Hon. Paul Martin. Since moving to the private sector in 2006, Murphy has built a practice at McMillan LLP advising national and international clients in diverse areas including project finance, construction law, infrastructure and indigenous affairs.
In 2019 LexisNexis Canada published Murphy’s book, Public-Private Partnerships in Canada: Law, Policy and Value for Money, the core text book for P3 law in Canada.
Additionally, Murphy chairs the Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) Board of Directors, is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Morguard Real Estate Investment Trust and a director of the Soulpepper Theatre Company.
