McMillan Welcomes Leading Senior Technology Lawyer
McMillan LLP is pleased to announce that Robert Piasentin has joined McMillan to lead the growth and development of the firm’s Vancouver office Technology Law Practice. Robert brings a strong commercial law practice with a specialization in technology-related corporate and commercial matters. He has developed a particular focus on technology outsourcing transactions, software development and licensing solutions, and strategic IP and technology commercialization arrangements, as well as privacy and cybersecurity.
Robert comes to McMillan from a leading information technology and management consulting company, where he was General Counsel, Privacy Officer and Corporate Secretary. He brings a unique perspective and understanding of the business and legal challenges of marketing, developing, integrating and operating technology solutions across North America; developing and implementing strategic growth initiatives; and day- to-day operating challenges faced by technology companies.
“Robert’s deep experience advising clients on a wide range of commercial, intellectual property, software development and licensing, and other technology-related matters will be a great asset to the firm and its clients across the country,” said Teresa Dufort, CEO of McMillan. “His stellar reputation in the technology industry enhances the profile of McMillan’s technology practice.” Upon learning that he was joining McMillan, a former CFO of Robert’s previous employer said, “We think highly of Robert. He has a lot of talent, is ethical, and in particular, he is good with people and solutions-oriented. Congratulations!”
Over the last 13 years, Robert led and was involved in a wide range of commercial, intellectual property, software development and licensing, M&A, operations, corporate governance, leasing, real property, marketing, public and private sector procurement, HR, privacy and dispute resolution matters. He was also responsible for all legal aspects of a $1 billion IT services project. “I have worked with McMillan for years, and I know the firm well,” said Robert. “McMillan has a great team of talented lawyers. I am excited about contributing to the growth of its technology law practice and look forward to working with McMillan’s many technology clients.”
“For more than a decade, Robert has played a central role in bringing game-changing technologies to the world,” said Tom Theodorakis, Office Management Partner of McMillan’s Vancouver office. “Having seen the many innovations that have transformed businesses over the years, Robert brings with him lived experience and deep insight that will benefit our clients and their needs, and will be of tremendous value to the firm and the Vancouver office.”
