Capital Markets Deal of the Year: Creation of Brookfield Infrastructure Corporation and Brookfield Renewable Corporation

The unit split and creation of Brookfield Infrastructure Corporation merits the Capital Markets Deal of the Year Award, for its unique economic and accounting perspectives. The transaction offers new investing options in Brookfield Renewable’s globally diversified, multi-technology renewable power portfolio. Insolvency & Restructuring Deal of the Year: CCAA Restructuring of Cirque du Soleil

The Restructuring of Cirque du Soleil earned the title of Restructuring Deal of the Year for its complex and significant cross-border component. The closing of a sale transaction with secured lenders and emergence from creditor protection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (“CCAA”) in Canada and Chapter 15 in the United States, marks a milestone for the world leading live entertainment company. Cirque du Soleil is renowned for producing circus arts shows and a large variety of entertainment forms, including multimedia productions, immersive experiences, theme parks and special events. McMillan represented the lenders with a team led by Waël Rostom and included Emile Catimel-Marchand, Owen Gaffney and Eric Stachecki.
