Sandra Sbrocchi named as a recipient of 2018 Forty Under 40 Award by The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and Ottawa Business Journal
McMillan LLP is pleased to announce that Ottawa business lawyer Sandra Sbrocchi has been selected as a recipient of The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and Ottawa Business Journal 2018 Forty Under 40 Award, one of the most prestigious business awards that recognizes accomplished and rising business leaders under the age of 40 in the National Capital Region.
“On behalf of the firm, I congratulate Sandra on this significant achievement. I am delighted to see Sandra’s legal expertise and leadership within her community be recognized by her peers.” says Martin Thompson, Ottawa Office Management Partner at McMillan LLP.
The 2018 awards saw more than 290 applications submitted, with this year’s recipients coming from varied industries and backgrounds ranging from craft brewing to technology. Of the recipients, 55% were women, and the average age was 36.5 years. Each submission was assessed on business accomplishments, professional expertise and community involvement.
“It’s fantastic to see the recipients hailing from different industries and backgrounds” says Ottawa Chamber President and CEO Ian Faris. “These young business leaders demonstrate the enormous amount of talent we have in this city. Their pioneering nature and visionary thinking will generate economic benefits in the years ahead as Ottawa is fast becoming the centre of talent attraction and innovation.”
With more than 10 years in private practice, Sandra is a highly skilled business lawyer with a very broad range of experience from leading both domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, and for strategic and private equity investors. She also advises on venture capital investments and provides general commercial and governance advice to clients across a variety of industries. She is a rising star in the cross-border private equity industry, as well as the start-up technology industry, and has worked on a broad range of transactions in Canada including deals valued in excess of $1 billion.
Sandra’s community work in Ottawa includes being part of the University of Ottawa Women’s Legal Mentorship Program; a program focused on shifting the culture of the legal profession and eliminating the barriers facing the retention of all women and equal representation of all women. Since 2015, Sandra has also been an active member of McMillan’s National Women Initiative’s Steering Committee which is devoted to promoting the success and the advancement of women at the firm by providing business development, networking and leadership opportunities and advancing progressive firm policies. She is also corporate secretary of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and was recently appointed to the board of directors of Help Lesotho, a charity committed to helping children and youth reach their potential in a context of gender equity in Lesotho.
“I am humbled to have been chosen amongst the highly talented entrepreneurs and professionals receiving this award,” says Sandra Sbrocchi, business lawyer at McMillan LLP. “The diversity and success of the recipients demonstrates what a dynamic and driven business community we have here in Ottawa and I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”
The Forty Under 40 recipients will be celebrated at a gala at the Hilton Lac-Leamy on June 15.
