Scott Maidment Elected an Honorary Bencher of The Middle Temple
McMillan LLP is pleased to announce that the Parliament of The Honorable Society of the Middle Temple has elected McMillan Partner Scott Maidment as an Honorary Bencher of Middle Temple Inn. Scott was called to the Bench on April 5th at a ceremony in Middle Temple Hall in London.
Middle Temple is one of the four Inns of Court exclusively entitled to call their members to the Bar of England and Wales. The Inn has a long and distinguished history dating from the mid-14th century. Other Canadians recently elected as Honorary Benchers of Middle Temple include The Right Honorable Richard Wagner, P.C., Chief Justice of Canada, The Honorable Rosalie Silberman Abella, FRSC, a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 2004 to 2021, and the distinguished counsel Ms. Sheila Block.
Scott is a leader in McMillan’s national litigation practice and is based in the firm’s Toronto office. Scott has served the legal profession in Canada with distinction, including through his term as President of The Advocates’ Society and Chair of its Board of Directors. In addition to his distinguished career at the Bar, Scott has made a significant contribution to advocacy training in Canada, and has served as an advocacy instructor abroad for Middle Temple and for the United Nations. In his address to Middle Temple on his call to the Bench, Scott noted the historic contribution that Middle Temple has made to the cultivation of excellence in advocacy and the value of that contribution for the justice system. As Scott said, “This cultivation of excellence is essential to ensuring the fairness and efficiency of the judicial process, and the quality of judicial outcomes, upon which public confidence in the administration of justice so greatly depends.”
Scott’s election reflects his own longstanding commitment to the cultivation of excellence at the Bar, a commitment shared by his colleagues at McMillan. The firm warmly congratulates Scott upon his election as an Honorary Bencher of Middle Temple.
