Douglas Zorrilla’s practice focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate law and business immigration, and involves a range of general corporate and commercial matters.

Representing local and national clients in the real estate and construction sectors, Douglas works with developers, landowners, investment companies, commercial landlords and tenants, and natural resource companies. He provides advice on the acquisition, subdivision, development, financing, sale and leasing of commercial, industrial and residential properties.

Douglas also provides advice to local, national and foreign corporate clients on a wide range of business immigration matters. In addition to providing strategic advice to corporations on immigration matters, he assists in the preparation and submission of permanent residence applications, labour market impact assessments, work permits, intra-company transfers, business visitor applications, study permits, and provincial nominee applications.

Prior to joining McMillan, Douglas worked as a real estate / corporate paralegal and immigration consultant for other firms in B.C. He was called to the bar in Peru in 2007 and practised law in Lima until 2010.



Representative Matters

Commercial Real Estate Matters

  • Represented developers on a range of developments throughout BC, including townhouse projects and large scale mixed-use condo developments. Representation included acting for the acquisition of property, development of the project, construction financing and sale of individual strata lots. Development work included drafting disclosure statements, facilitating development applications, assisting with construction financing, and closing matters.
  • Assisted a real estate investment and management fund company with the acquisition of various properties throughout BC. Scope of assistance included drafting purchase agreements, due diligence, acquisition, financing, and closing matters.
  • Assisted various corporate clients on reviewing, drafting and revising commercial leases and subleases with respect to industrial, retail, office, and cannabis tenancies.
  • Assisted mining companies on drafting of title reports of various mineral claims.

Immigration Matters

  • Represented largest home mortgage lender in the United States in various intra-company transfer applications for executives, managerial and specialized knowledge workers
  • Represented fourth largest reinsurer in the world in an intra-company transfer application of a high level executive
  • Represented a mining company in a significant benefit (C10) application of a high level executive as well as in an intra-company transfer application
  • Represented an international auto parts manufacturer in various intra-company transfer applications for specialized knowledge workers
  • Represented various executives in their permanent residence applications
  • Represented various corporate clients with business visitor applications under After-Sale Service category
  • Assisted various corporate clients on navigating travel restrictions and emergency orders due to COVID-19
