Tilaye has obtained a Master of Applied Science degree and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from the University of Toronto, both in Electrical Engineering.

Tilaye worked for over 8 years in various technology firms including a major integrated chip manufacturer and a high-speed modem designer. Tilaye has a sound knowledge of software engineering, digital hardware design, electronics, telecommunications, image and video processing, and touch detection technologies. Tilaye is also a named inventor on a US Patent and its international counterparts. 

Tilaye has spent several years working in patent agencies. Tilaye has also managed an intellectual property department for a leading electronic whiteboard vendor - evaluating invention disclosures, closely guiding prosecution efforts, coordinating patent litigation efforts and developing an intellectual property strategy.
