Sterling Hillman is delighted to return to McMillan as an articling student, building upon a rewarding summer experience with the firm.

While pursuing his J.D. at the University of Calgary, Sterling actively contributed to community development. In his second year, he served as a Student Caseworker at Student Legal Assistance, offering crucial legal guidance to low-income individuals. Sterling’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment extended to his role as an executive with the U of C Law Ambassadors, ensuring new and prospective law students felt supported at the school. In March 2022, he showcased his legal prowess in the Alberta Court of Appeals Moot Competition, specifically competing in the constitutional law division. Additionally, he played a vital role in planning the UCalgary Law Show, contributing to the vibrant extracurricular life of the law school. Sterling’s global perspective was further enriched when he went on exchange and studied law at the University of Aberdeen during the fall of 2022.

Before embarking on his legal journey, Sterling earned a Bachelor of Environment (with distinction) with a major in Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University. His diverse experiences included working as a student research assistant, studying aquaculture in Hong Kong, and serving as an elected student senator.

Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, Sterling is an avid outdoors enthusiast. You can often find him fishing in his canoe, enjoying bike rides, and skiing during winter. In the spirit of community service, Sterling is an active volunteer mentor with the East End Boys Club.
